SPRINGFIELD, IL — Today, Betsy Dirksen Londrigan was joined by U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth and Illinois Veterans to talk about the importance of protecting and improving health care for our nation’s Veterans. They discussed Rodney Davis' record of gutting protections for pre-existing conditions -- and cutting Medicaid, which would have kicked 7,400 veterans in the 13th District off of their health care. Photos of the press conference are attached.
"I know there's been a lot of back and forth in this district over pre-existing conditions. Let me clear this up, because I was there in Washington when this fight was happening. Rodney Davis repeatedly joined Washington Republicans in voting to gut protections for people like me. People with pre-existing conditions," said Senator Duckworth. "I watched as Rodney Davis celebrated on the White House lawn after voting to rip health insurance from more than 35,000 of his own constituents. He was celebrating the repeal of a law that helped cut the uninsured rate among Veterans by 40%. Our Veterans deserve better than Washington Republicans who try to make healthcare less affordable for them and their families."
"Congressman Davis has tried to rewrite his record. But here’s the thing: our nation’s heroes, some of whom are here beside me, deserve better than that. They deserve someone who will protect their healthcare," said Betsy Dirksen Londrigan. "They deserve someone who will be true to her word -- who will hold town halls and meet with their constituents, regardless of their political persuasion. They deserve someone who will never turn her back on the brave men and women who have served this nation. They deserve better than Rodney Davis."
