EDWARDSVILLE, IL — Betsy Dirksen Londrigan today met with seniors in Edwardsville and discussed her commitment to protecting Social Security and Medicare, as Rodney Davis met with Speaker Paul Ryan behind closed-doors. Ryan has proposed cutting Social Security and Medicare programs to pay for the tax giveaway for big corporations and the wealthy that added nearly $2 trillion to the debt. Plus, Rodney Davis has voted several times for Ryan’s plan to privatize Medicare and turn it into a voucher program. A photo of the event is attached and video of the event is available here.
“The people of Central Illinois have been working hard and paying into Social Security and Medicare their entire lives,” Londrigan said. “They deserve actual representation in Congress, not career politicians Rodney Davis and Paul Ryan who want to cut Social Security and Medicare and stick seniors with the bill for their tax giveaway to their wealthy donors. I’m here today to say not on my watch. I’ll always stick up for our seniors and protect their earned benefits.”
Londrigan has been endorsed by Social Security Works and the Illinois Alliance for Retired Americans because she understands that there are more than 100,000 people in this district who are over the age of 65 who rely on Social Security and Medicare — and countless Central Illinoisans are paying into the programs with the expectation that they will be there for them.
