Londrigan: Rodney Davis Wants You To Think He's Running Against Madigan & Pelosi. But He's Running Against Me. And I Can't Be Bought.
DECATUR, IL - At last night's debate in Illinois' 13th Congressional District, Betsy Dirksen Londrigan delivered powerful closing remarks about why she is running for Congress: to protect access to quality and affordable health care, defend Social Security and Medicare, and to represent Illinois, not Washington special interests.
Londrigan also confronted Davis for campaigning as if he’s running against Mike Madigan and Nancy Pelosi, reminding him of who she is and how she has spent her life working hard to improve Central Illinois.
Video of Londrigan’s closing remarks is available here, starting at 56:57.

“Thank you so much for having us tonight. Thank you so much for hosting. It’s my pleasure to be here. Because we’re sitting right here in Decatur and you’re being inundated with television ads right now, I think it’s really important for you to remember -- and for Congressman Davis to remember -- he is not running against Mike Madigan. He is not running against Nancy Pelosi. He is not running against my husband...and it’s 2018 by the way, I thought we were past that kind of thing. He is running against me. My name is Betsy Dirksen Londrigan.
I was born and raised in Springfield, Illinois. I have spent my life invested in my community - where I raised my three children, where I have been a school volunteer, where I have worked while raising the kids, where I sat on my child’s bedside in the pediatric intensive care unit. I am running for this office because I want our neighbors, and our communities, to do better. I want you to have health care. I want you to be able to go to the doctor when you need it. I want you to be able to afford your medicine. I don’t want you losing everything you’ve worked for your whole lives because of one medical emergency. I want for people who are over sixty-five to know they can retire with dignity.
What we have heard is that the GOP in Congress intends on cutting Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid to pay for this tax bill. I won’t stand for that. When I go to Washington D.C,, I will be a clear contrast to Congressman Davis, because I’ll be the one standing up for you. I can’t be bought and paid for by special interests or corporations, because you’re my special interest. You’re who I answer to. I want the 13th District to have a voice in Washington D.C. I want to take your voice there, not the other way around.”
